Rockstar Games has finally given fans one of the most detailed looks yet at Grand Theft Auto VI with its new Extended Look. Running for roughly 26–27 minutes, the showcase is captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5 and focuses heavily on Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, their relationship, criminal activities, combat, vehicles, police encounters and the living world of Leonida.

Unlike a traditional trailer, the Extended Look spends much more time showing how GTA 6 actually looks and feels during gameplay. Jason and Lucia are repeatedly shown working together, moving through dangerous situations, escaping police, fighting enemies and travelling through the detailed world of Vice City.

The footage makes one thing very clear: GTA 6 is not only about a bigger map. Rockstar is trying to make the world, characters, combat and moment-to-moment gameplay feel much more connected.

Jason and Lucia Are the Heart of GTA 6

The biggest focus of the Extended Look is undoubtedly Jason and Lucia.

The two protagonists are shown together through several sequences, reinforcing the idea that their relationship is one of the central elements of GTA 6. Rockstar's official description presents them as two criminals who are forced to rely on each other after an easy score goes wrong and pulls them into a much larger criminal conspiracy across Leonida.

What makes their gameplay particularly interesting is that the pair are not simply two characters appearing in separate missions.

The footage shows them cooperating during dangerous situations, communicating with each other and taking different roles during action sequences.

This creates a very different feeling from previous GTA games.

Instead of always controlling a single protagonist, GTA 6 appears to be designed around the idea of two characters who can actively work together while the player moves between them.

The Opening Quickly Turns Into Chaos

The Extended Look wastes little time before putting Jason and Lucia into a dangerous situation.

The footage opens around a criminal deal/pickup that quickly goes wrong. What initially looks like a controlled meeting turns into a chaotic shootout as enemies and police become involved.

This sequence is particularly useful because it immediately shows how Rockstar is blending cinematic storytelling with gameplay.

The transition between conversations, movement and combat is extremely smooth. The game does not constantly feel like it is stopping the action to move into a traditional cutscene.

Jason and Lucia move through interiors, take cover and fight their way through enemies while the environment remains an important part of the action.

GTA 6 Combat Looks Much More Dynamic

Combat is one of the areas where GTA 6 appears to have received a major upgrade.

The Extended Look shows Jason and Lucia using firearms during intense firefights while making use of cover, movement and the surrounding environment.

Characters can duck behind objects and walls, move between cover positions and continue fighting rather than simply standing in one place and shooting.

The footage also shows Jason using a slow-motion/focus-style shooting sequence, giving the gunplay a more cinematic feel.

The combat animations are another noticeable improvement.

Jason and Lucia move around obstacles, react to attacks and transition between movement and shooting much more naturally.

This makes firefights feel less static and more like an active part of the environment.

Taking Cover During Combat

One of the most impressive details shown is how cover is used during firefights.

When enemies start attacking, Jason can move behind objects and use them for protection before returning fire.

Lucia can also take cover and participate in the fight while being controlled by the game's AI.

This is important because it makes the two-character system feel more believable.

You are not necessarily controlling both characters at the same time, but the second character can still contribute to the action.

The result is a more dynamic combat scenario where Jason and Lucia appear to fight as a team.

Police Chases Could Become One of GTA 6's Best Features

If there is one part of the Extended Look that immediately grabs attention, it is the police chase sequences.

Jason and Lucia are shown trying to escape law enforcement while driving through the streets of Vice City.

The chase is not simply about driving as fast as possible.

The footage demonstrates how driving, shooting and character switching can work together.

During one sequence, one protagonist can drive while the other takes responsibility for shooting at pursuing enemies or police vehicles. The showcase also demonstrates switching between Jason and Lucia during the action.

This could make GTA 6's vehicle pursuits considerably more interesting than simply following a road until the wanted level disappears.

Jason and Lucia Can Work Together During a Chase

The dual-protagonist system becomes particularly interesting when Jason and Lucia are inside the same vehicle.

One character can concentrate on driving while the other can focus on the action around them.

This gives the player more options during a chase.

Instead of choosing between driving and shooting, GTA 6 can allow the two characters to effectively divide the responsibilities.

The Extended Look also demonstrates quick switching between the protagonists, making the entire sequence feel much more fluid.

This could become one of the defining gameplay mechanics of GTA 6.

Vehicles Are More Than Just Transportation

Vehicles receive plenty of attention throughout the footage.

Cars, bikes, boats and other forms of transportation are shown as part of the wider Leonida experience.

More importantly, vehicles are integrated into gameplay rather than being used only to travel from one mission marker to another.

Police pursuits, escapes, robberies and combat all involve vehicles.

The showcase also gives fans a better look at the enormous variety and visual detail Rockstar is putting into vehicles.

From bodywork and interiors to lighting and reflections, the cars look significantly more detailed than what players are accustomed to in older GTA titles.

Shooting From Vehicles Looks Excellent

The combination of driving and combat is one of the most exciting aspects of the Extended Look.

During police pursuits, Jason and Lucia can engage enemies while the vehicle continues moving.

The footage even shows the protagonists targeting pursuing vehicles and damaging them during the chase.

This creates a much more cinematic feeling.

Instead of a chase simply being about escaping the police, GTA 6 appears to turn vehicle pursuits into full action sequences.

Weapons Feel More Integrated Into the Gameplay

The Extended Look also gives us a better idea of how weapons will work.

Jason and Lucia are shown using different firearms during combat, while the action flows naturally between movement, cover and shooting.

The showcase also indicates that weapons can be picked up or used depending on the situation, adding another layer to combat.

The weapon animations and character handling appear much more detailed than previous GTA games.

Large weapons are also visibly represented on the characters, helping make the weapon system feel connected to the physical character rather than simply being a menu-based mechanic.

Hand-to-Hand Combat Has Also Been Improved

The Extended Look is not only about guns.

Lucia gets a sequence where she has to fight without relying on firearms.

Her close-combat sequence demonstrates dodging, physical reactions and more detailed hand-to-hand animations. The scene eventually becomes particularly brutal, showing just how far Rockstar has pushed melee encounters.

This suggests that GTA 6's combat system is designed to work across different situations rather than focusing exclusively on gunfights.

Interiors Look Incredibly Detailed

Another major highlight is the game's interiors.

Buildings shown in the Extended Look contain detailed furniture, lighting, hallways, elevators and smaller environmental elements.

The game frequently moves between interior and exterior locations without making the transition feel artificial.

One nighttime building sequence is particularly impressive because of the combination of dark areas, colourful lighting and illuminated sections of the environment.

This level of detail helps make Vice City feel more like a functioning place rather than a collection of mission locations.

Vice City Looks More Alive Than Ever

The Extended Look spends a significant amount of time showing the world around Jason and Lucia.

Vice City is filled with traffic, pedestrians, businesses, buildings, beaches and activities.

The world appears designed to continue functioning even when the player is not directly involved in a mission.

Rockstar has also shown activities beyond the main criminal storyline, including basketball, scuba diving, kayaking, interacting with animals and various everyday activities.

These details make the open world feel much more like a place that players can explore rather than simply a giant map for missions.

The World Is Full of Small Details

One of the biggest strengths of the Extended Look is the number of small details Rockstar has included.

Characters communicate through phones and messages, NPCs react to their surroundings, animals can be interacted with, and social-media-style elements are integrated into the world.

Even when Jason and Lucia are not actively fighting, there is a sense that something is always happening around them.

This attention to detail could make simple exploration one of the most enjoyable parts of GTA 6.

Character Switching Looks Smooth

Another major feature demonstrated during the Extended Look is switching between Jason and Lucia.

When the two characters are together, the switch can happen quickly during gameplay.

This becomes particularly impressive during action sequences.

For example, one character can be driving while the other is involved in the shooting, allowing the player to change perspective depending on what is happening.

When Jason and Lucia are separated, switching appears to work differently and can take longer, maintaining the cinematic presentation of the game.

The important point is that this is single-player character switching, not two-player co-op.

The Extended Look Shows More Than Just Missions

The final sections of the showcase are particularly interesting because Rockstar moves beyond the major action sequences.

The footage explores different areas, characters, vehicles and activities around Leonida.

We see Jason and Lucia in different environments, along with glimpses of the wider cast and the lifestyle surrounding Vice City's criminal world.

Rockstar's official GTA 6 media page also provides separate character clips and official screenshots for characters including Jason, Lucia, Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan Priest, Real Dimez, Raul Bautista and Brian Heder.

This makes it clear that GTA 6's world is much bigger than just Jason and Lucia's immediate story.

Graphics and Animation Are a Huge Step Forward

Because the Extended Look was captured entirely from PlayStation 5 in-game footage, it provides a much better idea of the game's visual quality than a traditional cinematic trailer.

Character faces, hair, clothing, vehicle surfaces, lighting and environmental details are all presented at an impressive level.

The animations are equally important.

Walking, running, climbing, fighting, driving and taking cover all appear to connect together more naturally.

The result is a game that feels significantly more animated and reactive.

The Jason and Lucia Relationship Is More Important Than Expected

Perhaps the most interesting element of the Extended Look is that GTA 6 is not presenting Jason and Lucia simply as two protagonists.

Their relationship appears to be central to the entire experience.

They talk to each other during missions, communicate while separated and rely on one another during dangerous situations.

Rockstar's official story description also emphasizes that Jason and Lucia are forced to rely on each other as they become involved in a larger criminal conspiracy across Leonida.

That relationship could become one of the biggest differences between GTA 6 and previous entries.

GTA 6 Extended Look: Final Verdict

After watching the full Extended Look, the biggest takeaway is that GTA 6 is trying to connect everything together.

Jason and Lucia are not simply two playable characters.

They are part of a system where driving, shooting, police chases, character switching, exploration and storytelling can happen within the same sequence.

The police chases look especially exciting because driving and combat can happen simultaneously.

The combat also appears considerably more dynamic thanks to cover, movement, weapon handling and improved melee mechanics.

At the same time, Rockstar is clearly putting enormous effort into the world itself.

Buildings, vehicles, interiors, NPCs, animals, activities and small environmental details all contribute to making Leonida feel alive.

The Extended Look may not reveal every gameplay system GTA 6 will offer, but it gives players the clearest picture yet of Rockstar's vision for the next Grand Theft Auto.

And if these 26–27 minutes are only a small portion of the full game, there could still be a lot more waiting for players when Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
